The rows below are the shape of a shop file. Every dollar stays blank, because a made up balance would be a lie.

Rows a shop file needs.
Service income holds the chair, the room, and the treatment. Product income holds what left in a bag. A gift card liability holds money taken for a card that has not been used. A package liability does the same for a bundle of visits. Booth rent income holds money a stylist paid for the chair, when that really is rent. Tips payable holds what the guest left that is not the shop's sale. The bank holds what actually cleared. The bin before a grouped deposit holds tickets that have not met the bank yet.
That is the whole shape. A shop can have more rows. It should not have fewer of these, or the ticket has nowhere honest to land. A single income account called sales is how the bottle and the haircut become the same number.
Every amount on this shape is left blank. Your shelf, your tips, and your deposit stay yours. A filled-in example would pretend a client stood here, and none does.
What we read first.
The first read is the blended button, if one exists. Then the deposit that arrived as one lump. Then the bin of tickets that never got grouped. Then any question account that still has a balance after the month was called closed. Those four tell us whether the shape is being used or only drawn.
A bank feed that suggests a category is a suggestion. Accepting every suggestion is how rent, tips, and product share a pile again. We accept a suggestion only when it matches the day sheet. The day sheet wins an argument with a suggestion.
Equipment is a different row. Chairs, bowls, and dryers placed in service can be looked at under the instructions for Form 4562. Those instructions, for a tax year beginning in 2025, name a ceiling of two million five hundred thousand dollars, and the ceiling starts to fall once the cost of property placed in service passes four million dollars. The pages name the ceiling. They do not place a dryer into a shop we have not seen.
After the shape is real.
When the rows exist and the buttons point at them, a month can close. The close is the bank matched, the shelf matched, the cards and packages still showing what is owed, and tips either paid out or still payable. Then a statement is worth reading. Then a return can be drafted. Before that, a return would only copy the blend.
